Burton Breaks Record

(New Zealand Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, January 7. New Zealand’s leading archer W J. Burton (Gisborne), broke the’ national record for the Olympic round shoot in the New Zealand archery tournament at New Plymouth today. Burton won the Olympic round shoot, and shot a brilliant 802 out of a possible 810.

..The previous national record for this round was 788. The record was also beaten by the Place-getter, G. Hartner (Waiuku), who returned 790. A New Plymouth competitor, B. A. Knauf scored 782 to finish third. This was the fourth record to be beaten in the tournament. Burton also established a new record in the Burton round, a contest named in recognition of his contribution to New Zealand, archery, with a score of 754 points. In the double clout championship Mrs J. Vollmuller (Whakatane) bettered the national record of 231 with a fine 250. In the junior class Jill Watson (Auckland) scored §O4 and broke the record.
