(New Zealand Press Association) DUNEDIN, January 6. Women cricketers from Auckland, Wellington, Canterbury, and Otago are competing for the Hallyburton Johnstone Shield in a series of twoday matches which began at Logan Park today in cold weather. The holder of the shield is Auckland, wnich is playing Otago. At the end of the' first day’s . play the result of the match appeared very open, Auckland having scored 212 runs in its first Innings and Otago having lost two wickets for 43. In the match between Canterbury and Wellington, Wellington was dismissed in its first innings for 105, and at stumps Canterbury had scored 153 for the loss of five wickets. The top scorer for the day was P. Blackler, with 83 not out for Canterbury. Other good scores were by A. Skinner (Auckland) 45, R. McKenzie (Auckland) 40, J. Clothier (Auckland) 36, and D. White (Auckland) 35. D. Meek (Otago) took four wickets for 48, L. Bayliss (Canterbury) three for 4, and M. Taylor (Auckland) two for 10. MALVERN GAMES C. Campbell’s Good Bowling

The lively pace of the Darfield seniors’ bowler, C. Campbell, brought him considerable success during Saturday’s matches in the Malvern Cricket Sub-Association’s competition. This fast bowling was a feature of the match between Sheffield and Darfield seniors in which he claimed four Sheffield wickets for 19 runs. Sheffield began badly and had lost four wickets for 12. Only aggressive batting by G. E. Wright and the tail-enders helped revive the Sheffield innings. Sheffield had lost eight wickets when it passed Darfield seniors’ score of 98. G. E. Wright gave a good all-round performance to score 49. runs and take five wickets for 43. A century partnership by K. Shipley (70) and G. Ridgen (41) was the main feature of the match between Greendale and United. This partnership and some good bowling by Ridgen helped Greendale gain a first innings win. G. T. Wright played well for United; he scored 85 rims and took three wickets for 12 runs.

A thunderstorm upset the match 1 between South Malvern and Darfield c juniors. This game was one of low i scoring and bowlers took the major honours. For Darfield juniors, D Gunn took five for 39.
