Oakes Challenge

Shield Match The Christchurch Rifle Club, holder of the Canterbury Rifle Association’s Oakes Challenge Shield, beat the challenger, the Waiau Rifle Club, by five points in the first match of the present season.

Although Christchurch led by six points at 300 yards, Waiau regained five of these at 500 yards, where H. Davies and R. Chaffey scored possibles, the only ones of the match. Waiau lost this advantage at 600 yards, where its scoring fell away, and Christchurch won by five points. Scores were:—
