AUSTRALIA GIVES £l0,000
(Rec. 8 p.m.) CANBERRA, Jan. 1. Australia is giving £lO,OOO to the Ceylon Government for flood relief, the Prime Minister (Mr Menzies) announced today. The Australian Red Cross also was air-freighting £lOOO worth of chlorine, multi-vitamin and sulphur thiasolate tablets for immediate relief, he said.
Mr Menzies made the announcement in a message to the acting High Commissioner for Ceylon (Mr H. O. Wijegoonawardena) “All Australians have been shocked to learn of the tragic loss of life and property which resulted from the floods which recently have occurred in your country,” he said.
