Lawn Tennis Rain Postpones Start Of N.I. Tourney
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, December 30. Rain caused the abandonment of the first day’s play in the North Island lawn tennis championships at Mitchell Park, Lower Hutt, today. The management of the tournament has decided to reduce the first two rounds in the men’s singles and early rounds in the men’s doubles from the best of five sets to the best of three sets The tournament is due to finish on Thursday, but it is likely that play will now extend until Friday The New Zealand championships will start at Central Park, Wellington, on Saturday.
