FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation: A cold front is moving slowly north-eastwards across the North Island. A weak ridge of high pressure extends on to the South Island from the south Tasman Sea. Forecast:— Nelson: Moderate to fresh south-west winds predominating; weather mainly cloudy; a few showers in and near the ' ranges. Outlook: becoming mainly fair. West Coast: Light to moderate winds, south-westerlies predominating; occasional showers in the north; mainly cloud elsewhere; temperatures rather cool. Outlook: fair to cloudy. Marlborough and Canterbury: Light to moderate winds, mainly south-westerly; weather cloudy and cool; a few’ showers at first about Banks Peninsula and the Kaikoura coast. Outlook: scattered showers.
