Police who found his body on Friday said the youth, Warren Francis Johnson, aged 18, of Parramatta, had shot himself rather than die a slow death from thirst in temperatures of more than 100 degrees. But only half a mile away there was a ground tank full of water. Johnson was one of a party of four youths from Sydney who went kangaroo shooting in the bush about 50 miles from Bourke a week ago. When he became separated from the hunting partyand could not be found, help was sought from a nearby station. The police searchers later found signs that Johnson had eaten berry bushes in a frantic attempt to moisten his mouth. On Friday they found his body under a tree.
