HAWKE’S BAY MEETING
Turon For Gold Cup “The Press" Special Service WELLINGTON, December 30. There are only nine acceptors for the Hastings Gold Cup. the first leg of the T.A.B. double on the opening day of the Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club’s summer meeting at Hastings on Wednesday, but there is no lack of good form and the issue between Balfast, Hot Drop, Gilt, Turon and Bright Boy appears to be very open. If Balfast wins the Gold Cup. Solepic could go close to making it a stable double in the Stewards' Handicap. Though above himself in condition. Solepic made a bold showing for five furlongs and a half when racing at Manawatu, and he could improve quickly with the race. Warwick and Froth both promise to test Solepic. Warwick ran a first and second at Awapuni and Froth was a double winner at Riccarton where she took the Oaks Stakes in record time after winning as a hack on the first day. The track at Hawke’s Bay has been in splendid order and it would take a great deal of rain to affect it. Light rain today did no damage. Riding engagements for the opening day include:— C. H.
