TROTTING DIGNUS MAY WIN TOMORROW

' Canterbury Park Handicap

The second meeting within six days between Dignus and Super Royal will be the highlight of the first day of the Canterbury Park Trotting Club’s summer meeting at Addington tomorrow. They are engaged in the first leg of the double, the Canterbury Park Handicap, and they should dominate betting on the race.

They met last, Thursday in the Ashburton Cup, Dignus beating Super Royal after the last-named had lost 24 yards at the start. Tomorrow they will meet on the same terms over three furlongs less ground. Dignus is in great form at present and he is selected to finish in front of the Invercargill-owned mare

once more. Most opposition to this pair may come from V. Leeming’s representative, Esteem, which struck solid form at the New Zealand Cup meeting. She gained two wins and a second from her three starts at Addington and she is expected to extend that record tomorrow. Lady Belmer, Lady Shona, Don Hall, Ricochet and Light Nurse are others capable of adding interest to the finish. The former Southland pacer. Guard’s Brigade, will be at a short price in the second leg of the double, the Islington Handicap. Guard’s Brigade has had three wins this season and he has yet to be beaten. If he races up to his best, his opponents will find him hard to beat once more. Tourie is a grand stayer as he showed when he outclassed a useful field over two miles at Ashburton last week. A similar performance here will test Guard’s Brigade. Gold Mist finished an unlucky fifth at Addington last month when making a fresh start. The Light Brigade mare has more ability than most in the race and the could easily upset calculations.

Kyle Nurse, Blue Jay and Girl Brigade are others expected to add interest to the finish.
