BRABIN SHIELD TOURNAMENT

R. Morgan Gets A Century (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, December 30. For the second time in the three days of the tounament, a Brabin shield tournament batsman has scored a century. Ross Morgan, aged 16, who performed this feat for Auckland in its match with Wellington at Eden Park today, marred an otherwise outstanding exhibition of competent batting by lethargic running between the wickets and by an occasional uncertainty to balls pitching on or outside the off stump. Morgan took 245 minutes to score 126 runs. It was his fifth century of the season and strengthened the possibility .of his winning selection in the Auckland Plunket Shield team for the third match of the series. Auckland spent all day amassing 381 runs for seven wickets against a Wellington attack which gave too little support to D. Bray, a mediumpaced bowler. The bowlers were handicapped from 3 o’clock onwards by misty rain which toward the end of the day caused a break of about 10 minutes.

Otago owed much to R. Proctor, who scored 50, in its match with Canterbury. Otago scored 179 and Canterbury was 56 for two at stumps. D. Hill, who missed his century by only four runs on Saturday, is still batting strongly for Canterbury. Details:—
