HOLIDAY ROAD DEATHS
Australian Toll Worse Than U.S. (Rec 9.30 p.m.) MELBOURNE, December 30. Australia's holiday road toll was worse than that of the United States, the Australian Road Safety Council chairman. Mr T. G Paterson, said today. The United States road death rate over the holidays worked out at three deaths a day for each million vehicles, Mr Paterson said But Australia had had nearly four deaths a day for each million vehicles. The Commonwealth Christmas week total reached 51 today, compared with 43 at the same time last year.
