Queen Urged To Take More Interest In Music
(Rec. 7 p.m.) LONDON, Dec. 29. The Queen and other national leaders should take more official interest in serious music, ing to the January issue of “Music and Musicians.” In a leading article headed “Music Wants the Queen” it said that in the last few months “quiet but persistent comment” on this neglect has been widespread in musical circles. “Its undertone has not been of resentment . but of sincere regret and no little pain,” the journal said. The journal denied that it was making another attack on the Queen. “There are some office* In the
State which by their nature carry responsibilities towards national activities, among which music is by no means the least important,” it said. “The absence of our country’s leaders from musical functions has been so noticeable recently that it can only be assumed that their advisers are unaware of the comparative importance of -the occasions and of the real desire of music-lovers to have, their leaders among them now and then. “Music wants the leaders of the nation to join in its great occasions. And most of all in love and affection as well as in her capacity as Head of statue, it wants the Queen,” it said.
