CAMPERS AT BEACHES
Most Sites Taken This Year
Both Woodend and Waikuku beaches have almost a capacity crowd of campers. Reports from both beaches indicate 4 that the holiday-makers are in a jolly mood but well behaved. -When the : Rfein ; road near Belfast became' impassable, several travellers from the north going to Christchurch and other places south diverted to Waikuku beach and were given temporary accommodation. Woodend had an influx of campers who had been warned to leave Kairaki because of the flood danger but these could not be accommodated. Three parties travelling long distances—one from Auckland and two from'the West Coast —were found sites for one night before they continued further south by way of the Waimakariri Gorge bridge. The floods caused the postponement of the Leithfield Beach gala last Saturday and arangements have been made for it to be held on New Year’s Day, when the Woodend Beach gala will be held also. . ,
