Athletics Australians In Form At Napier

(New Zealand Press Association) NAPIER, December 26. The visiting Australian sprinter, G. Bromhead, [ran 100 yards in 9.ssec at McLean Pa;rk, Napier, this afternoon. It was one of the fastest dashes ever run in New Zealand, but Bromhead had the assistance of a strong breeze. He also won the 220 yards in 22sec. Bromhead with a fellow Australian. A. Lawrence, ia distance runner, and B. Almond, 4 half-miler, competed at the Napier' Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club’is annual Boxing Day meeting. Lawrence failed in an attempt to beat Neville Scott’s New Zealand two-inile record. He covered the distance in 9min s.9sec—--18.1sec outside Scott’s figures. Almond won , the 880 yards event by 20 yards, from T. Martin, of Gisborne. |
