Christmas Work

Described ' Remembering their motto, “We Serve,” members of the NoiAh Canterbury Junior Red Cross haVe been busy carrying Christmas cheer to young and old. Recently members of one cirdle visited the plastic ward of the Burwood Hospital. Each child was given gifts of toys and frujt. Many of these had been supplied by country circles. The children were entertained by performing puppets. Gifts of sweets and scrap books were taken to the children at the School for the Deaf at Sumner. Many circles found |n their ovfn district lonely people that they could visit and help. Several sent in gifts of money to buy Christmas gifts for the aged. Others made gifts and sent thein in. ;

City Circles Children from three city circles accompanied by the North Canterbury organiser (Miss T. Eldridge) and the patron of tie St. Albans School circle (Miss P. Storrar) visited Rannerdale Home where' each returned servicemdn and woman was given an attractive tin of sweets. The sweeps had been made by some circles, others had decorated the tins arid others had supplied money to buy sweets. Those visited we|e delighted and the children wefe shown over the home. ? Later the same group called dn three other homes where old people are being cared for and distributed gifts to all. One country school had a Christmas tree at its end of year function.
