Carols By Limelight
Sir,—The cinema industry is not always conspicuous for its sense of decorum and the fitness of things, but surely one might have been spared a session of Christmas carols against a visual background on the screen of advertisements for women’s underwear, exhortations to join the Army, and propaganda for the latest brand of petrol. The incongruity of the performance was, if anything, intensified by the fact that the carols were very beautifully sung.—Yours, etc., M.T. December 27, 1957.
