Elvis Presley’s Army Service
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 8 p.m.) MEMPHIS (Tennessee) , Dec. 24. Elvis Presley, the singer, asked his draft board today to keep him out of military service until he completes his fourth Hollywood film. Presley, who is 22, in a letter wishing his draft board a “Merry Christmas.” asked for the military deferment on behalf of Paramount Pictures. Presley was ordered last week to report for induction on January 20. Presley’s studio already had asked for a deferment, saying it might lose as much as 350,000 dollars if Presley were inducted on schedule.
