OTAGO DECLARES: 365 FOR SIX
Trial With Minor Associations (New Zealand Press Association) DUNEDIN, December 12. Almost 500 runs were scored on the opening day of the cricket trial between Otago and South Island Minor Associations at Carisbrook today. Otago, with B. Sutcliffe scoring a form century and adding 204 runs for the second wicket with another left-hander, M. McEwan, declared at tea .with 365 runs on the hoard for the loss of six wickets. At stumps. Minor Associations were fighting back with three wickets down for 132. It was a heart-breaking day for the bowlers—the wicket was dead and the outfield tremendously fast. A gusty north-west wind blew throughout the day., Sutcliffe was caught by H. McKnight in the outfield off the bowling of Bcban for 123. It was not a chanceless knock, but he hit some glorious shots. His total included 17 fours and was scored in 156 minutes. The attack was rarely Impressive, although the bowlers tried hard. ; Alabaster had no luck and had no answer to the left-handed batsmen. Veitch. Sutcliffe, and McEwan. Har-, ford took the bowling honours with; his four wickets, but Millichamp, although not taking a wicket, was a shade the faster and was on the spot more than the Central Otago man.
