SPECIAL VOTES
Total Recorded So Far, 93329 (New Zealand Press Atsorrchsni WELLINGTON, December 3. A total of *3.329 special voces in the General Election had boon recorded by the Electoral Department late this afternoon. These votes include votes formerly described as absentee and postal votes, and are not included in the electron night totals. The department is not yet distributing these special votes to individual candidates in each electorate: it is merely recording the total special votes received so tar.
The distribution of these special votes and consequently their effect on seats where the winning candidates at the moment have slender majorities, will not be known until late On December 10 at the earliest. Special votes are valid so long as they are received before 7 p.m on that day. The counting of the special votes is likely to affect only seats held by the National Party. Four of these have majorities of 366 or fewer. These seats are Manakau. 94; Raglan. 193: North Shore, 366: and Eden, MS. The special votes for the tour seats to date are:—Manukau, 746; Raglan. 806: North Shore, 2082; and Eden 1700. In two other seals with relatively small National majorities. Invercargill <448 majority) and New Plymouth <392) the special votes received so far total 1478 and 1301.
A spokesman for the Electoral Department said tonight that it appeared there was still quite a number of outstanding votes. Another tally of special votes would be released on Thursday evening.
