Beckenham Still Unbeaten Beckenham retained Its unbeaten record this season when it beat Spreydon B by 4 goals to 2 in the fourth round of matches in the Canterbury water polo competition last evening Better combination and superior handling were the key to Beckenham’s success against a team which played keenly and was quick to snap up opportunities from broken play. E. Harris was a stalwart for the Spreydon side, and held the team together from the goal. Harris was picked for the New Zealand side which was to have competed at the Melbourne Olympics, and his play seldom varies from a very high standard Spreydon scored the first goal of the match when the youngster. R Blair, netted with a fine flick shot Otto Snoep, the New Zealand swimming sprint champion, was ordered from the water for a foul soon afterwards, and this gave Beckenham, with a man unguarded, an opportunity to score the equalising goal After throwing the ball round and finding the weak spot, R. Henry made no mistake with a hard throw to the corner of the net. H Loose scored Beckenham’s second goal when Henry had intercepted a pass in front of the Spreydon goalmouth. Just before half-time. P. Breach (Beckenham) was fouled out. At half-time. Beckenham led by 2 goals to 1. Spreydon lost its advantage when play resumed, when N. Roake was also ordered from the water for a foul After a fine spell of swift and accurate swimming and passing. R. Henry netted again for Beckenham, and brought Breach and Roake back into the game. Henry again netted for Beckenham late in the spell, and a Dutchman, R. Lampe, scored Spreydon’s final point close to full time. In spite of a fine exhibition of water polo by the former New Zealand swimming champion before the last war, R. Hatchwell, Christchurch was unable to make an impression against the strong Spreydon A side The Spreydon team was well led by Colin and Noel Chambers. At one stage of the match, the players became over eager, and the referee (Mr A. Lee) warned several players on both sides that he would order them from the pool for the whole game unless the fighting stopped. Hatch well saved a certain Spreydon goal early in the match when he intercepted a pass outside the Christchurch goal. Soon after, however, I. Berryman netted Spreydon’s first points with a fine shot from wide out.

There were many fouls in the match through players disputing possession over the top of another player. I. Berryman scored Spreydon’s second goal just before halftime

With a sizzling shot from wide out C. Chambers added to Spreydon’s score after the resumption. Hatchwell scored Christchurch's first goal after an unimpeded break down the middle, and shortly after followed this up with another solo burst, which ended in a goal. I. Berryman again scored for Spreydon shortly before full time, and although C. Chambers was fouled-out. Spreydon was unable to bridge the 4-2 gap. Results of last evening’s matches were:— Senior.—Beckenham 4, Spreydon B 2; Spreydon A 4, Christchurch 2. B grade: Christchurch 3, Air Force 2; Beckenham 5. Elmwood 5; North Beach 7, Wharenui 1. C grade: North Beach 6. Elmwood 3; Linwood 3, Wharenui 3; St. Albans 4, Spreydon 3; Riccarton 5. Beckenham 1.

Simone Silva, the 29-year-old Cairo-born British film actress, was found dead in her flat last night. She had died after a stroke, the police said tonight. After examining a medical report, the police announced that

they were satisfied death was from natural causes.

Her father was French and her mother Italian, and she was christened Simone de Bouillard.
