AGA KHAN 21 THIS MONTH
Speculation On Engagement
I By
SUSAN VAUGHANI
Will Prince Karim, the new Aga Khan, announce his engagement at his coming-oLage party in London this mofith? His twenty-first birthday on December 13 will be marked by a dinner and dance at which there will be hundreds of guests. His parents. Princess Joan and Prince Aly Khan, now divorced, will be there.
It would be an ideal occasion foi announcing ’iris engagement. And friends are predicting not only the time and the place, but also the name of the girl—Sylvia Casablancas. Childhood Friends
Miss Casablancas is a beautiful fair-haired Mexican girl, who lives with her parents in Geneva. She has known the Aga Khan since childhood. Her brother, Fernando, was a great friend of Karim’s at Le Rosay, the world’s most exclusive school, in Switzerland.
Rumours that she and the Aga Khan will marry have been neither confirmed —nor denied. The lack of a denial may be significant. Recently, when the Aga Khan’s name was linked with Mona el Badrawai, aged 17, the daughter of a wealthy Egyptian family, an official denial was issued only a few days later.
Miss Casablancas will almost certainly go to London for the qew Aga Khan’s birthday cele-, brations. She has been writing regularly to him, and they spent some time together on holiday in the South of France last summer.
No Make-up Daughter of a wealthy Mexican, Miss Casablancas needs no makeup to look extremely attractive. She left an exclusive finishing school in England recently, and now attends a secretarial college in Geneva.
She is one of four girls whose names have been linked .with the Aga Khan’s. The others are Jane O’Reilly, an American, aged 21, living in St. Louis, and Ann Marie Mersen, a French film starlet, aged 24. Miss Mersen, however, is now engaged to Sylvia’s brother, Fernando.
