SETTLEMENT IN CYPRUS
Conditions Set By Mayors (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) NICOSIA, December 1. Cypriot Greek mayors and deputy-mayors of the island’s main towns said last night that they would have nothing to do with the new Governor (Sir Hugh Foot) unless Archbishop Makarios’s deportation order were rescinded. The mayors at a special meeting. passed a resolution that they were not prepared to come in contact with any representative of a ruling Power, Britain, over a solution to the Cyprus problem unless all the emergency laws were abolished, an undertaking given on self-determination for Cyprus, and Archbishop Makarios allowed to return.
