GLOBEMASTER FLIGHT
Tractor Dropped At Pole Group Captain T. J. de Lange, the commanding officer at the Royal New Zealand Air Force station, Wigram, was a guest observer aboard a 53rd Troop Carrier Squadron Globemaster when it dropped a tractor at the United States South Pole station yesterday. Group Captain de Lange was a visiting guest of RearAdmiral George Dufek. In its drop the tractor was supported by three 192 ft parachutes and,, within 20 minutes of landing, Pole station personnel had its engine running. The station radio operator thanked Captain Jack Wrinkle and his crew for their very fine delivery of supplies. “Since this is your squadron’s last flight to the Pole this year every man here sends his kindest regards for your time-saving deliveries,’’ he said. “Those of the past few weeks, especially, have saved us many hours’ work due to drop accuracy.’’ A Beaver ski plan'e, piloted by Flight Lieutenant W. Cranfield. R.N.Z.A.F., landed at the ski runway at McMurdo Sound yesterday because the runway at Scott Base was obscured by heavy fog.
