PARLIAMENTARY CONFERENCE
1959 Meeting In Australia (N.Z. Press Association —Copyright) (Rec. 7 p.m.) NEW DELHI. December 1. The next Commonwealth Parliamentary conference will be held in Australia in 1959. The general council of the Commonwealth Parliamentary conference yesterday decided unanimously to accept the invitation of the Australian Minister of Primary Industry (Mr W. McMahon). The council was meeting to complete the agenda for the conference. which will open tomorrow. India. Pakistan, and Ceylon are joint hosts. At yesterday's meeting the council elected the Speaker of India's House of the People, Mr Anthasayanam Ayyangar. as chairman. His election was proposed by the South African member of Parliament. Mi' J. W. 'Higgery, who resigned as chairman to allow Mr Ayyangar’s election. It was seconded by the British member of Parliament. Mr P. C. Gordon Walker. Mr Higgery was then elected as vice-chairman. The conference is being attended by 120 delegates from Parliamentary Associations in 30 Commonwealth countries and territories. The Prime Minister of Ceylon. Mr Bandaranaike. and the British Labour Opposition leader. Mr Gaitskell. are due today for the conference.
