CADET MIDSHIPMEN WIN PRIZES

Two New Zealanders’ Successes (Neu> Zealand Press Association J WELLINGTON. December 2. New Zealand cadet midshipmen training in Australia were awarded two major prizes at a passing-out parade held at the Royal Australian Naval College, Melbourne. They were cadets M. L. Clough, of Kaikoura, and C. C. Canning, of Napier, each of whom was dux of his class. In addition cadets Canning and M. R. Pate, of Christchurch, were made cadet captains for 1958. The prizes were awarded by the Governor-General of Australia (Sir William Slim). Three members of the New Zealand simply mission at present in Australia— Captain G H. Stanning, Commander L. B. Carey, and Mr J. P. M. Cornwall, of the Navy Office —attended the parade.
