53rd SQUADRON OF U.S. AIR FORCE

The United States Air Force 53rd squadron, now stationed in Christchurch, intends to start returning to the United States on December 1 and it is hoped to have . all the men home before Christmas. One officer and’ five men will remain in Christchurch to look after the maintenance equipment. Flights from Christchurch will be made every second day. Part of the squadron will return in February to carry equipment to Antarctica. The number of aircraft to return will depend on the amount of cargo to be carried south.
A Globemaster will fly south from Christchurch today at 10 a.m. The noted seismologist, the Rev. Father Daniel Linehan, will be one of the passengers. He is to make seismic studies for the United States Navy.
The Globemaster that was delayed at Fiji with a damaged cylinder arrived in Christchurch at 4.18 p.m. yesterday.
