Dealer’s Promotion Arrangement

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 7 p.m.) LONDON. Nov. 20. A contract has been signed between the Ghana Communications Ministry and a New York stamp dealer, Mr M. R. Lehmann, under which he will establish a Ghana philatelic agency, to promote and sell commemorative Ghana stamps to outside countries,” says “The Times.” Ghana is the first Dominion territory to establish an agency of this kind in private hands as distinct from establishing an official philatelic agency under Post Office control, says the newspaper. The contract is tor 25 years and the agency . will operate from December.

They have already announced the first issue as a three-value commemorative series consisting of 2Ad. Is 3d, and 5s stamps to mark the inauguration of the Black Star Line. Ghana’s mercantile marine venture. A Ghana report indicates that 50.000 sets wil be on sale in Ghana post offices and 20.000 sets will be retained by the agency in New York for distribution to the stamp trade. It further reported that 12 three-value sets are planned for 1958. “The Times” philatelic correspondent says that this radical reversal of colonial stamp issuing policy, to which the former Gold Coast colony adhered, would undoubtedly have an effect adverse to the popularity of the stamps oj Ghana among collectors everywhere. but particularly in Britain where the demand for the stamps of Ghana would ordinarily be the greatest.
