1275 Acres For £32,512 A North Canterbury sheep and cattle grazing property of 1275 acres at Waikari was sold at an auction in Christchurch yesterday for £25 10s an acre—£32,sl2 10s. “Pentland Downs,” as the land is sometimes called, is freehold and was offered on account of the trustees in the estate of Mr A. J. W. Inkson. “Pentland Downs” was originally part of Glenmark. * About 400 acres are ploughable. Thirteen acres are in lucerne, and the balance is in tussock hills. The land is subdivided into 19 paddocks and three main blocks, which are watered by creeks, springs, and dams. At present there are 61 head of cattle and 1778 sheep, of which 1100 are ewes. About 343 ewes are stud halfbreds. There is a seven-roomed wooden house on the property and also a smaller four-roomed concrete house. Both houses are surrounded by lawns and shrubs. Bidding opened at £2O an acre and rose by five bids of £1 and two of ss. The bidding began keenly and finished slowly. More than 50 persons attended. Sydenham House
A five-roomed house in Huxley street, Sydenham, on a small section, was sold for £lO2O at an auction in Christchurch yesterday. The house was offered on account of the trustees in the estate of Sarah Mitchell. Bidding opened at £BOO and rose by one bid of £5O, six of £25, and two of £lO. A five-roomed house on a section of a little more than a quarter of an acre in Knowles street, Papanui, was passed in at £3400 at another auction. The property was offered on account of Mr R. T. Doig. Bidding opened at £3OOO and rose by eight bids of £5O. About 12 persons attended.
A four-roomed house on a section of 26 perches in Urunga avenue, Papanui, was passed in at £3500. The house was offered on account of trustees in the estate of Mr J. D. Knowles. Bidding opened at £3300 and rose by two bids of £lOO.
