FINDING ON RAIL MISHAP
Mistake In Accepting Signal (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, November 20. A mistake in the acceptance of a signal was the initial cause of an electric unit running into the back of another, at the approach to the Wellington station yard, on the morning of October 21. This unanimous finding of the departmental board of inquiry into the accident was announced today by the Minister of Railways (Mr J. K. McAlpine). Mr McAlpine said the board had found that the driver of the oncoming train was a conscientious employee who had never been concerned in a signalling irregularity in his eight years of driving. The investigation showed, he said, that the signalling installation was'in normal working order and that the brake equipment on the oncoming train functioned normally.
