Success Story
A. Quinlan, a tall, well-built bowler from Australia, has been included in the Wellington representative training squad this season. Quinlan came to New Zealand several years ago on a working holiday. He has played for the Midland club since his arrival, working his way through to the senior team last season. Opening the bowling at a lively pace, he has had consistent success this season and last Saturday when he took four for 51 he dismissed both Karori’s New Zealand representatives, L. S. M. Miller for 2 and J. E. F. Beck, who was cleaned bowled first ball. Quinlan has, however, had rather less success with the bat. He is the only senior batsman who has played in all matches without scoring a run this season. On Sunday in a friendly match at Levin he extended this distinguished record when he was clean bowled for another duck in the first innings. But in the second innings the fielding team, hearing of his embarrassment, provided him with a slow under-arm grubber which he carefully scraped away to leg for his first run of the season.
