Marching DEAF SCHOOL TEAM
First Success In Australia
The marching team from the School for Deaf, Sumner, made a successful first appearance in Australian competitions on Saturday, according to advice received from the coach of the team (Mr B. Hogue). The team, which left Christchurch last week to begin its two-week visit, will compete in several displays and carnivals this week and next. On Saturday, competing in a Sydney marching display, the team won the gold medal and the pennant for its showing in several events. The crowd was surprised at the precision of the marching girls, who judge their movements by counting instead of by the whistle or music, as do most teams.
