BY-PASSED ROAD SECTION

Control By Kovvai

County

The section of the Main North road through Leith field which has been by-passed as the result <»• the building of the new bridge over the Kowhai river will revert to the status of a county road. The Kowai County Council

was advised of this by the National Roads Board in reply to a suggestion by the council that the section of the road should be declared a main highway. In view of the board’s decision the council decided to ask that the road be given a maintenance seal before being taken over by the council.

Hydatid Control.— After discussing the question of hydatid control with the district health officer (Mr R. N. Thompson) the council decided it would meet with representatives of the Ashley County Council and Federated Farmers with a view to designing some campaign that could oe referred back to a public meeting.

Amberley Town Hall.— A request was received from the Amberley Residents’ Association for the town hall to be extended. The council decided to advise the association that the matter had already been considered and appropriate action would be taken at an opportune time. The existing building had not been completely repaid yet, it was stated, and it would be better for the hall to be debt free before an extension loan was raised.

Roads Vote.— The councils application was unable to be included in the Consolidated Fund Roads Vote estimates this year, stated the District Commissioner of Works in a letter. The council had applied for £B5O for the Grey’s road culvert and £lBOO for the Streeter’s culvert. The council decided to re-apply for assistance next financial year.

Parking in Amberley.— The council decided to ask the Transport Department to advise on the desirability of making provision for angle parking outside the Amberley Hotel and the Service Transort on the main highway.
