Bowls For Lepers At Makogai

Bowls which in former years were trundled up and down New Zealand greens will soon be used by leper patients at Makogai. Fiji A full-sized bowling green for Makogai has long been one of the ideas of Mr P. J. Twomey, secretary of the Lepers’ Trust Board in New Zealand. The new Medical Superintendent at Makogai. Dr. D. W. Beckett. told Mr Twomey on a recent visit that able-bodied patients would complete the green as soon las they had finished work on the | new physiotherapy building. I New Zealanders have given 200 'sets of wooden bowls to the Makogai patients, who. both men and ’women, are eagerly looking forward to this new form of recrea- ! tion. i The gentle exercise of bowling is considered of great importance in the treatment of the patients I who have expressed through Mr ITwomev their gratitude to their New Zealand benefactors.
