U.K. Figures Up
14 Per Cent.
(Special Correspondent N.Z.P.A.) LONDON, Nov. 14. Butter consumption in Britain during the third quarter of this year averaged 7900 tons weekly, or 14 per cent, more than in the corresponding quarter in 1956, says the Commonwealth Economic Committee. During the first nine months of this year it averaged 7600 tons a week or 1000 tons a week above the 1956 level. Margarine consumption declined by 600 tons a week. “There appears to have been an increase of 400 tons per week, or 3 per cent., in the total market for the two products,” the committee says.
