Corriedale

A seven-year-old ram from O. T. Evans (Hawarden) won the San Pedro trophy awarded in the Corriedale section for the ram most likely to make a good sire. Half of the points are allotted to general appearance, sire character and walking and standing. and half for the head. Mr J. H. Grigg (Longbeach), who made the award, said a seven-year-old ram that was still active and showing well was rarely seen. This ram’s fleece was starting to show age, but he had a perfect mouth, a good face colouring, and stood well on all feet.

Mr Grigg said he had picked out two hoggets which showed well, but he had decided to give the trophy to the ram that had proved itself. The judge said that of all the rams that came under his scrutiny he had had to pass over about 70 per cent, qf otherwise perfect sheep because their teeth did rot meet the pad, which was a serious failing.

The winner of the class for ewes under 18 months from Mr D. S. Johns (Cui verden) was awarded the Meat and Wool challenge cup for the outstanding winning exhibit in the Corriedale section.
