Giraffe’s Death From Shock
"The Press” Special Service WELLINGTON, November 14. Fog was indirectly responsible for the death of the baby giraffe during its sea trip from. London Zoo to Wellington Zoo, the Wellington City Council learned from the London Zoo. The ship's fog sirens gave the animal a shock from which it died. Cr. J. G. Churchill, chairman of the reserves committee, under which the Wellington Zoo comes, read to the council a letter from the London Zoo. “The ship ran into thick fog running down the English Channel and 200 miles into the Atlantic,” said the letter. “The giraffe appeared to be very much upset by the fog sirens, which were blowing all the time.” The letter said the giraffe was insured for £l5OO and the insurance company was prepared to accept the claim.
