Neu Moderator Inducted
Fifteen of the 20 students under the Christchurch Presbytery were welcomed at last evening’s meeting of the Presbytery by the Rev. W. M. Hendrie. of St. Giles’ Church. Papanui, who was inducted as the new Moderator at the meeting. “Your job will throw on you tremendous opportunities and the Presbytery will follow with interest all that you do.” said the new Moderator, in his welcome. ■ There were great opportunities open to young men entering the ministry today, said the Rev. B. [R. C. Nottage, introducing the j students. : Three of the students were sons of members of the Presbytery, it I was announced, and 10 were hoping to study at the Theological Hall. Dunedin, next year. Details of a ministerial retreat to be held at Diamond Harbour next January were given by the Rev. J. L. Wilson. Speakers would be Dr. E. L. Allen, of Durham University, Professor J. Henderson. of the Theological Hall. Dunedin. and the Rev. W. P. Temple, supervisor of religious broadcasts for the Presbyterian Church. Reports were heard by the Presbytery on studies made by the Rev. R. H. Wells, of Cashmere. and it was arranged for his licensing to take place at the Cashmere Church this evening. The service will be conducted by the Moderator, and the preacher will be the Rev. G. B. Falloon. A call from the Stirling parish in favour of the Rev. I. G. Ryburn, of Kirwee. was received. Messrs T. E. Pearson and A. M. Calder, representatives of the Halkett parish, spoke appreciatively of the work carried out by Mr Ryburn during the last six years. The Presbytery congratulated the Rev. J. Sands, of Hornby, who has been raised to full status as a minister of the Presbyterian Church.
