CRICKET Demanding Itinerary For N.Z. Team In Britain

I The itinerary for the New Zea- | land cricket tour of England next i year is a more demanding one 1 than that for the last tour in 1949. Details of the matches given in a cable message from London show that provision has been made for the New Zealanders to play at least 108 days’ cricket.

There will be 31 first-class games, if the practice of having a three-day match in Scotland is retained. They will give a possible 103 days’ play, and beside the five days for second-class matches mentioned in the itinerary, it seems certain that there will also be a two-day game in Scotland.

Dates for the games in Scotland have yet to be arranged, but it appears likely that this part of the tour will be between the Leeds test, which starts on July 3, and the first of the two matches in Ireland, on July 16. In 1949, there was a total of 103 days’ play, 96 for first-class matches, so next year’s team will play from five to seven days more.

The chairman of the New Zealand Cricket Council’s board of control (Mr J. L. Kerr) said last evening that the itinerary was much as expected, and gave New Zealand five tests in a series for the first time. If it was found that any journeys between matches would be difficult if undertaken by rail or coach, it was proposed that the team fly, if possible. Details of the itinerary are:— April 30, Worcester: v. Worcestershire. May 3, Leicester: v. Leicestershire. May 7. the Oval: v. Surrey. May 10. Ilford: v. Essex. May 14. Cambridge: v.
