MINOR WEEK-END FIRES
Slight damage w’as done to the floor and ceiling of the veranda of a house at 272 Barrington street, occupied by Mr T. Brown, in a fire at 4.23 p.m. on Saturday. Two fire engines attended the fire which was soon extinguished. A rubbish fire in a railway waggon in the Addington Railway Workshops yard at 7.39 p.m. on Saturday was extinguished by a unit from the Central fire station without damage. At 9.02 p.m. on Saturday two units attended a fire in a truck, the property of Mr M Hornsby, in Colombo street, near Purchas street. Damage was done to the electrical wiring of the truck by the fire, which is believed to have been started by a back-fire from the engine to the carburettor.
A hedge fire at the property of Mr C. Dugan. 84 Whittels road, was attended by. two fire engines at 8.21 a.m. yesterday. No damage was caused by the fire.
