TERRITORIAL UNIT CUTS
Ballots To Reduce Strength All but one of the 11 Canterbury territorial units will be affected by the recent Government decision to reduce the strength of the force by ballots. Starting tomorrow, the units will hold ballots to reduce their numbers by about 20 per cent. The only unit not required to hold a ballot will be the 3rd Infantry Brigade, which is already at the required strength. As the
result of the reductions, several hundred territorials will be posted to the reserve. The first ballot will be conducted by the 21st Supply Company. R.N.Z.A.S.C. at the Addington barracks tomorrow evening. On Thursday the 32nd Battalion. 3rd Field Regiment, R.N.Z.A., will hold its ballot at Addington. Thn other units required to reduce their numbers are A Squadron. Armoured Car Regiment; sth Independent Field Squadron; No. 3 Squadron, Divisional Signals Regiment; First Canterbury Regiment; C Company. 2nd General Hospital; 3rd Infantry Workshops: 3rd Field Ambulance. Dates have not yet been fixed for all of the ballots. Commissioned officers, n.c.o.’s.
and trainees who wish to continue I their service will not have to take • part in the ballot.
