Hotels OPENINGS OF CLUBS

CHRISTCHURCH R.S.A. Conditions were good for the opening of the Christchurch Returned Services’ Association Bowling Club by the president (Mr A. D. Harrison). Mr A. Farrar, president of the Christchurch R.S.A.. was present, and congratulated the club on the condition of the pavilion and ereens. In his remarks he spoke of the great social part the bowling Hub played in the R.S.A. activities. The Christchurch Bowling Centre was represented by its president (Mr R. H Neill). Opening the season.

Mrs C. L. Snearman threw the first kitty and Mrs Harrison played the first bowl. AVON CLUB The president. Mr C. T. Lascelles, at the opening of the Avon Bowling Club thanked the green superintendent (Mr H. McSwigan) and his voluntary helpers. Mr M. Le Cren represented the centre. The president of the Avon Women’s Club (Mrs R. Parmenter) presented the club with a cheque to he used for a new fence. Opening the season. Miss M Lascelles, daughter of the president, threw the first kitty and Mrs Parmenter p'ayed the first bowl. BELFAST CLUB Belfast Men’s and Women’s Bowling Clubs were opened jointly. The president of the men’s club (Mr A Charteris) welcomed a large gathering and Mr J. R. Smith represented , the Christchurch Centre and the New Zealand Council. Mr Smith congratulated the club on the green, saying it reflected great credit on the members of such a small club. Mrs J. Robb threw up the first kitty and Mrs H. Deavoll played the first bowl. PAPANUI CLUB There was a record attendance at the opening of the Papanui Bowling Club. The president (Mr E. J. Burgess) thanked workers who during the winter months had renovated the pavilion and added further amenities. Mr Turner Smith represented the centre. Mr J. R. Smith also called at the green. The first kitty was thrown up by Mrs C. Stock, wife of the vice-president, and Mrs Burgess played the first bowl. Other clubs which opened were Amberley. Akaroa, and Allenton (Ashburton). LYTTELTON CLIP The Lyttelton Bowling Chib opened the season on its newlyrelaid rubberised green on Saturday afternoon. The president, Mr J L. Baines, who welcomed visitors and new members, thahked the members who had relaid the green. The membership of the club was increasing, said the Mayor (Mr F G Briggs), who declared the season open, and it was gratifying to see so many young members Miss Maureen Baines sent down the kitty, and Mrs Baines delivered the first bowl. A presentation was made to Mr C Hunton, a member of the Mount Pleasant Bowling Club, who supervised the relaying of the green Mr Hunton was also elected a die member of the club. Shirley Women’s Club When Mrs J. Silvester, president of the Shirley Women s Bowling Club opened the club’s season, she congratulated Mrs I. Small on being elected president of the women s centre, and commended the green superintendent (Mr E C. Hyde) on the excellent greens. Mr J. O Thompson and his helpers were congratulated on their work in finishing the new pavilion. The president of the men’s club (Mr J V Williams) wished the club a good season. Miss W Silvester, daughter of the president threw the first kitty and Mrs J. K. Mather, the sister of the president, bowled the first bowl. Opawa Women’s Club Mrs E. Sutton, the president of the Opawa Women’s Club, opened the club’s season recently The president of the men’s club (Mr R Madsen) was present, and Miss Lane represented the Christchurch Women's Bowling Centre The first kitty was put up bv Miss Maureen Bucklev. the president’s daughter Mrs N Rucklev plaved the first bowl.
