KINDERGARTEN APPEAL
Record Amount Raised When the Christchurch Free Kindergarten Association held its Daffodil Day street appeal recently the record sum of £ 1916 was raised. After the deduction of expenses the amount was divided between the 32 kindergarten committees in the association, and the association for administration of the Christchurch Kindergarten Training College. This was announced at a recent meeting of the association by the president (Mrs A. F Johnson! who paid tribute to parents, committee members, staff, other organisations and members of the public for their assistance. Mrs McCreanor’s Retirement Mrs Johnson said it was regretted that Mrs K B. McCreanor h<id found it necessary, for personal reasons, not to seek reelection as president of the Union of Free Kindergartens. Mrs McCreanor’s contribution to kindergarten work throughout the whole of New Zealand had been a very valuable one, she said. A letter has been sent from the Christchurch association to Mrs McCreanor expressing appreciation of all she has done and expressing regret that it has been necessary for her to retire. Miss Eva Millen, at present director of Sydenham Kindergarten, has been appointed to the staff of the kindergarten training college as from the beginning of 1958. Miss B. Pierce Las been appointed director at Richmond Kindergarten.
A selection committee is now interviewing applicants for kindergarten training, and has been most impressed with the quality of those desiring to become students.
Examiners in practical work at the college this year have been appointed as follows: —Mesdames D. R. McDonald. N. Tyndal. N. McKechnie, J. Hay. N. Jack- | man and B. K Dawber. Projects for new kindergartensl and alterations and additions to old ones are well in hand The new building for the St. James’ i Kindergarten is almost completed i and will in future be known as the Riccarton Kindergarten. A section in Rylands avenue for the new Fenda’ton Kindergarten has been approved. Sketch plans for a new kindergarten to replace the present T T airehau Kindergarten, now functioning in a hall, have been approved as also have plans for additions to the Papanui and Richmond Kindergartens. Miss R. Wilkie, principal of the Kindergarten college, reported ■ that attendances at the kinder- ■ gartens during the last month had been excellent. The staff had • received good co-operation from parents in the very effective! “Mind That Child” road safety I campaign.
