Syntax Shows Improvement

The New Zealand champion Syntax’s injured leg has improved so much that he is to be taken out for exercise at Mentone this afternoon.
His trainer. Fred Hoysted. said that he was now more hopeful that Syntax would be able to run in the Melbourne Cup. He said that Syntax had improved a great deal since Tuesday.
Syntax still is in the Moonee Valley Gold Cup to be run next Saturday week, but Hoysted said today the horse would be scratched from that race.
He said he was hoping to start Syntax in the weight-for age L. K. S. Mackinnon Stakes at Flemington on Derby Day. as his final trial for the Melbourne Cup.
