WOOL SALES IN AUSTRALIA
Irregular Trend At Sydney
(N.Z. Press Association —Copi/’iqht)
SYDNEY, October 1
Wool values continued to show considerable irregularity at the Sydney wool sales today. Compared with yesterday, better style wools were par to 2J per cent, lower, and more average descriptions. particularly those carrying medium to heavy vegetable fault, were generally 5 per cent, lower. Comeback and crossbreds also showed irregularity and were quoted par to 2( per cent, cheaper. The selection generally comprised good to average topmakers from north-western, western, central and south-western districts of New South Wales.
The offerings reflected seasonal conditions experienced during the growing period of the staple and
were not so robustly grown, containing vegetable fault and dust in varying degrees. Approximately 1800 bales of average comebacks and crossbreds were offered.
Crossbred prices included: 94d tor good 58's, 87Jd for good average 58's. Good Market at Geelong
The Geelong woolbrokers reported a 96 per cent, clearance of the 12,000 bales they offered today. Good-style comebacks were firmer, and fine crossbreds fully maintained the relatively strong position established at the opening of the selling season. Medium and coarse wool ruled some pence dearer.
Values for Merinos over-al! showed little or no change compared with last week's levels. Good style fleece held firmly, while some falling-off in price for short fleece was evidenced and the price was very irregular for fleece of doubtful yield
Prices included 109 d for super 60/64’s. 104 d for super 60’s, IOOd for 58/56’s, 94d for super 56’s. 84Jd for good 50’s. 81d for good 46's.
