UNITED STATES NAVY AIRCRAFT LEAVE FOR McMURDO SOUND.—TOP: A United States Navy Neptune aircraft taking off from the Christchurch airport early yesterday morning for McMurdo Sound, assisted by J.A.T.O. rockets. The pilot was Commander Vernon Coley, commander of the VX6 Squadron. BOTTOM: Radio Technician B. Wishness making final adjustments to J.A.T.O. rockets on the Dakota aircraft which left after the Skymaster, but before the Neptune. The three aircraft reached McMurdo Sound safely early last evening.
