MUSIC EXAMINERS ARRIVE
Mr H. Kinsey And Dr. D. Hopkins Two examiners for the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, Mr Herbert Kinsey and Dr. Douglas Hopkins, arrived in Christchurch last evening. They have been conducting examinations in the North Island since June, and will leave Christchurch on Wednesday.
Mr Kinsey has been on the teaching staff of the Royal College of Music since 1920 and has Steen an examiner for the board since 1921. He was a member of the English String Quartet and the founder of the Kinsey Piano Quartet. Mr Kinsey is, the author of a book on violin playing and has written a number of pieces for the violin.
Dr. Hopkins has been a professor at the Royal Academy of Music for 20 years, where he teacnes organ and choir training. During the war he was in charge of music at St. Paul’s Cathedral, and in 1946 he was appointed master of music at Peterborough Cathedral and in 1952 organist at Canterbury Cathedral. He recently resigned from Canterbury Cathedral to devote more time to teaching, judging and examining.
Mr Kinsey and Dr. Hopkins will return to Christchurch later this year, and they leave for Britain on December 19.
