MAN CHARGED WITH THEFT OF £19,875

AUCKLAND, September 20. I Police today charged a man with breaking and entering the Waterfront Industry Commission’s office in Quay street, Auckland, on November 27 last year and stealing £19.875. The cash was the next day’s pay for Auckland’s cargo workers. The man, Trevor Edward Nash, aged 28, a cargo worker, of Papatoetoe, was arrested last Friday on a receiving charge. He has since been in custody. The breaking and entering and theft charge was preferred against him today. When Nash appeared in the Magistrate’s Court before Mi H. Jenner Wily, S.M., he was remanded till next Friday. He was also remanded to the same day on the receiving charge. Bail was refused. ,» Mr H. E. Campin, police prosecutor, told the Court that inquiries were proceeding. In consenting to the remand, Mr R. K. Davison, who appeared for Nash, asked the police to keep in mind that the last Supreme Court sessions for the year were only four weeks away. “I would like the depositions to be taken in time for the case

to be heard at that session,” counsel added.

Mr Campin assured Mr Davison tint the preliminary hearing of the evidence would be taken in time for the Supreme Court session.
