“MOTHER GOOSE” PANTOMIME
Production Next Month
Many weeks of rehearsals are near completion for the members of the cast of the “Mother Goose” pantomime, which will open at the Theatre Royal on Saturday; October 5. They have been rehearsing since the beginning of July. “All are ready to go, and we are now putting the ‘polishing brush’ on them,” said the producer (Mr Eddie Martin) yesterday. The proceeds from the show are for the care and welfare of intellectually - handicapped children. Mr Martin has produced many shows in New Zealand. Australia, and South Africa.
“Too many persons think that pantomimes are for children only,” said Mr Martin. “They appeal to all ages, and this pantomime is similar to the ones produced in the London theatres.”
The production had dancers, ballet, singers, and comedians, he said. There were 60 persons in the cast, and the music would be played by a full orchestra.
There were 12 scenes, and all lighting effects were coloured, said Mr Martin. To obtain some of the effects, special lighting had to be obtained from overseas. The cast includes Mr Martin as Mother Goose, Shirley Ruston as Jack, Anne Morrow as Jill, and John Taylor as the King. The tenor part is taken by Keith Morris. and the solo dancer is Joan Adams.
