Motor-Cycling WORLD CHAMPIONS FOR 1957
Australian Wins 350 cc Class

An Australian, Keith Campbell, Is the 1957 world champion for 350 c.c. class motor-cycles, although he did not compete in the Monza Grand Prix races today. He had built up enough points from earlier races to make sure of the title before his shoulder was broken in a recent accident. Campbell won the title riding Italian Guzzi machines. Bob Mclntyre (Britain) won today’s 350 c.c. event in record time on a Gilera, but later he complained of headaches, and. on medical advice, did not compete in the 500 c.c. event, thus losing his chance of becoming world champion in this class.
Cecil Sandford (Britain) finished fourth in the 250 c.c. class on a Mondial, but had already made certain of the world title in that event. Today’s events were the last counting towards the 1957 world championships. Following are winners of today’s events, and the world champions of ea i2O ex! 3 (18 laps of the 3.57-mile Monza Road circuit). —Carlo Übbialic (Italy), Augusta, 38min 54.75ec, average speed, 99.19 m.p.h., 1. World champion: Tarquinio Provini (Italy), Mondial. 250 c.c. (22 laps, 78.60 miles).—Tarquinio Provini (Italy), Mondial, 43min 05.8 sec, average 110.10 m.p.h., 1. World champion: Cecil Sandford (Britain), Mondial. 350 c.c. (27 laps, 96.46 miles).—Bob Mclntyre (Britain), Gilera, 51min 43.95ec. average speed (record) 111.88 m.p.h„ 1. World champion: Keith Campbell (Australia), Guzzi. 500 c.c. (35 laps, 125.05 miles).—Liebero Liberati (Italy), Gilera, 2hr 4min 49.35ec (record), 115.75 m.p.h., 1. World champion: Libero Lieberati (Italy), Gilera. 500 c.c. (Side-car (18 laps, 64.31 miles).—Albino Milan! (Italy), Gilera, 38min 56.75ec, average speed 99.07 m.p.h., 1. World champion: Fritz Hillebrand (Germany), B.M.W.
