South African Denied Passport
JOHANNESBURG, Sept. 2. Mr Patrick Duncan, son of a former Governor-General of South Africa and national organiser of the South African Laberai Party, has been informed that his passport will not be renewed. Mr Duncan said today that ne applied three months ago for its renewal, but was informed that he could not have it as he had given no reason ■ for wanting one. Mr Duncan said he had no intention of immediate travel when he applied, but had in mind a time when he was kept waiting five .months for renewal of his passport and wished to protect himself against a similar occurrence.
During the “resistance campaign” by non-whites in 1955, his association with members of the resistance movement, particularly when the party entered African locations without permits, attracted world-wide attention. The Minister of the Interior (pr. Ebenezer Donges) said last night he knpw absolutely nothing about the matter. “In any case, no reasons are given about any decision on the issue of passports,” he said.
